Credit Union Gives $10,000 to Support Credit Unions in Poland
On March 30, 2022, the Credit Union's Board of Directors approved a $10,000 gift to the Polish American Credit Union Support Fund. Polish credit unions are currently serving as a direct access point to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees, including food, water, medicine, blankets, and clothing.
“I am so grateful our Board authorized this gift to help our sister credit unions in Poland. Providing support to our sister credit unions is literally putting what’s most needed into the hands of the refugees,” stated Beth Carr, President/CEO. “I am proud of the efforts credit unions worldwide are making to help these people in need—there is power in community! Credit unions lead with their head and their heart, and that is what makes our industry truly remarkable.”
The Polish government recently passed legislation to allow Ukrainian citizens to register to enter Poland and enjoy employment and other benefits akin to those of Polish citizens. In addition, each refugee is given a unique number to be used to enter into contracts and set up financial accounts. Polish credit unions are doing what they can to assist these refugees in gaining financial stability when they have lost everything.
“Gaining financial stability in times of strife and turmoil will give people hope,” stated Carr. “100% of our donation will go directly to helping people who are desperate and need our help. What an amazing opportunity to be part of something so meaningful right now.”
