I am the Child and Family Development Director with Head Start Encompass Community Services in Watsonville. I have been with Encompass Head Start since 2007. I have a BA in Collaborate Human Services. I will leverage my experiences in the Watsonville community to support organizational decisions and strategic plans that impact low-income and underserved portions of the county. I also bring the perspective of a person of color working to service children and families in our community. I enjoy providing oversight and leadership and work diligently to provide a leadership example to others so they may succeed. I stand for opportunities for full potential for myself and others and actively work in all areas of my life to create spaces and pathways. I work to engage in collaborations that improve the quality of life in our community and put racial equity and justice in the forefront of the work.

I am currently a volunteer with the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center and provide volunteer support on an as needed basis. For example, I volunteered to lend support at emergency shelters during the August 2020 fires. I have previously served as a board member for the Head Start California Association and currently part of the executive team for the local Child Care Planning Council.

I am skilled in Compliance with an understanding of regulatory requirements and why they are important to any organization. I have skills in fostering new community partnerships. I am a strong non-profit leader, strategic thinker, and I work in Watsonville.

I have been a member of Santa Cruz Community Credit Union for 17 years. It would be an honor to serve the Credit Union and my community as a volunteer member of the SCCCU Board of Directors.
I have been a member of Santa Cruz Community Credit Union for more than 40 years. 24 years of my 30-year employment as a public employee was with the City of Santa Cruz.  I started at the Santa Cruz Traffic Engineering Division as a traffic engineering technician and promoted to Parking Programs Manager. I retired in 2013, however my longtime experience with Downtown Santa Cruz and my relationships with City of Santa Cruz staff, is a great support to the Credit Union.

Additionally, I have municipal finance and accounting experience based on my years of working with division and department budgeting and reporting. My extensive volunteer experience, has resulted in a strong understanding of non-profit finance and reporting requirements

I have served on the Credit Union Board since 2020 and it has been a very rewarding experience. I am very proud of and gratified by the services and support the Credit Union has offered to local nonprofits and local businesses over the last two years. The Credit Union has been a critical resource for local small businesses in our community.

I am also very proud of the work our staff has done by (1) working with the City’s economic development department to provide micro business loans to the sole proprietors who did not qualify for payroll protection program loans, (2) by providing safe, payday alternative loans to members who need support to pay monthly bills. Most payday loan  programs have  excessive interest rates, which can create additional burdens for borrowers. (3) In affordable housing, the Credit Union continues to be one of the few mobile home lenders in the county. This is a critical housing market for working people, given our housing costs. The Credit Union also formed a partnership with Habitat for Humanity, where they are helping fund loans for a Habitat housing project in mid-county.

I currently serve as the chair of the Santa Cruz Downtown Commission, which advises City Council on Downtown issues including parking. I am also vice-president of the Santa Cruz Education Foundation, which serves students, staff, and teachers in the Santa Cruz City Schools.  Thank you for the opportunity to continue to serve the Credit Union’s Board of Directors.
I am very passionate about the health and well-being of Santa Cruz Community Credit Union and wish to continue my service on the Supervisory Committee to help ensure the appropriate financial oversight through our annual audit and other compliance activities. My financial background and analytical skills have served me well in the auditing activities of the Credit Union. In my role on the Board of Directors from 1979 – 2001, I watched the Credit Union grow and change. I am very proud of the impact we have made and are making in the community. I retired after working for over 35 years in the Silicon Valley at a variety of technology firms such as Apple Computer and Juniper Networks, primarily in the field of Customer Service. I am very passionate about the community development work we do here at the Credit Union, and I am excited to continue to share my enthusiasm and support of this good work.
