The infamous Joker Virus, which was first discovered in 2017, has returned and users may not know their devices are infected until their bank or credit union accounts are emptied. The virus has been detected in eight Google Play Store applications, which have already been removed by Google.
The Joker Virus originated from a family of malware known as Bread, which hacks into Android mobile devices. The Joker Virus can get into text messages, contacts and other information available on the infected device. Additionally, it allows owners of the device to subscribe to paid services without consent.
Google Play has already removed the following eight apps to protect you from this virus:
- Auxillary Message
- Element Scanner
- Fast Magic SMS
- Free Cam Scanner
- Go Messages
- Super Message
- Super SMS
- Travel Wallpapers
However, the following 16 apps may also contain the malicious code and should be deleted from your device immediately:
- Private SMS
- Hummingbird PDF Converter - Photo to PDF
- Style Photo Collage
- Talent Photo Editor - Blur Focus
- Paper Doc Scanner
- All Good PDF Scanner
- Care Message
- Part Message
- Blue Scanner
- Direct Messenger
- One Sentence Translator - Multi-functional Translator
- Mint Leaf Message - Your Private Message
- Unique Keyboard - Fancy Fonts & Free Emoticons
- Tangram App Lock
- Desire Translate
- Meticulous Scanner
Please know that even though Google deleted some of the apps, it doesn't mean they will be deleted from your mobile device - please delete them if you have them on your device.
Additionally, we recommend that you install anti-malware on your device to avoid these malicous apps and codes from causing harm to your device and your personal information.
