Community Bridges Wins $25k Grant with the Credit Union’s Support

September 21, 2021

We're thrilled to announce that Community Bridges received the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of San Francisco’s 2021 AHEAD Grant for $25,000. SCCCU sponsored Community Bridges’ application, which was the only grant awarded in Santa Cruz County.
The Access to Housing and Economic Assistance for Development (AHEAD) grants ensure people living in lower-income communities have the infrastructure and resources they need to fully participate in a changing economy. The funds from this grant will be used to create a brighter, more equitable future for the underserved in our community.
“The Credit Union is grateful that our partner and friend, Community Bridges, has won the AHEAD grant,“ stated Beth Carr, SCCCU president/CEO. “This year, the process was highly competitive and winning this award is quite an accomplishment and honor for Community Bridges. We’ll continue to offer the resources and staff needed to help local non-profit organizations get the funds they need to provide essential services to those in need.”
Community Bridges plans to use these funds to support a pilot project known as the Santa Cruz County Free Legal Defense Clinic program. The clinic will provide the support needed to help low-income, Latinx, and immigrant community members maintain their housing after the COVID-19 crisis ends. Unfortunately, the crisis disproportionately impacted these underserved communities, and many have become deeply indebted to landlords and face higher than average eviction rates once COVID-19 moratoriums end.
Additionally, SCCCU has just kicked off their Second Annual RETURN THE FAVOR Giving Campaign, which provides financial support to 12 Santa Cruz County, non-profit organizations.  The SCCCU Board has generously provided $50,000 in matching funds to give back to our community. Every dollar donated during the campaign (until November 30) will be matched by SCCCU, up to a total of $50,000. You can easily donate by visiting the campaign donation site here.
