Board of Director Nominees

Three-Year Term/Incumbent

I was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, but was raised in Watsonville, where I’ve proudly been a member of the Santa Cruz County Community Credit Union for over a decade. With over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, I began my journey in 2020 at the Diocese of Monterey Catholic Charities, where I served as an Immigration Specialist. In this role, I assisted our community in navigating the intricate immigration process, guiding them toward becoming United States citizens.

Currently, I serve as Director of Programs and Impact at the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz. In this role, I am deeply immersed in understanding and addressing the needs and challenges of our community. Yet, amidst these challenges, I have witnessed the profound impact of connecting individuals with the resources they need for success and fostering their engagement in the community.

Service is one of my greatest passions, and I am committed to paying forward the support and guidance that my family and I received when we made Watsonville our home. We were fortunate to be embraced and mentored by numerous influential individuals who equipped us with the tools needed to thrive in a new country. Now, I am dedicated to imparting these lessons to our community, emphasizing that the Santa Cruz Community Credit Union is here to serve them.

It is with great honor that I serve as a volunteer member of the SCCCU Board of Directors (currently acting as Secretary), continuing my journey of giving back to the community that has given me so much.

Supervisory Committee Nominee

Three-Year Term/Incumbent

Since relocating to Santa Cruz in 2021, Gwen Rayburn has quickly become an engaged and enthusiastic member of the local community. She values the role Santa Cruz Community Credit Union plays in providing accessible, nonjudgmental financial services and guidance, and is proud to support an institution so deeply rooted in community wellbeing.

Gwen is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned a degree in Anthropology, and currently works in finance and operations at the Land Trust of Santa Cruz County. In her role, she manages invoices, payments, and financial documentation across more than 80 projects, collaborating closely with colleagues to ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting. This experience has strengthened her attention to detail and understanding of financial oversight.

She is excited to bring her skills to the Supervisory Committee and expand her experience in a different type of not-for-profit—one centered on community finance. Gwen approaches this role with curiosity, diligence, and a commitment to thoughtful feedback. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the continued accountability and success of SCCCU.
